Inner and Outer Brahmacārī Life. (05/01/01)

A_____ Dāsa,

Hare Kṛṣṇa.

Colour of dress is the outer cover of brahmacārī life. The inner substance is to use all our energy, as much as possible, to serve guru and Kṛṣṇa. If you take the coloured cloth, but continue to life in apartments by yourself and work a secular job, then people will criticise our mission. A man wearing the coloured cloth must live within the āśrama campus, and be twenty-four hours every day engaged in service.

What will please me at this time is that you take the opportunity to increase your daily commitment to japa and also increase the systematic study of Śrīla Prabhupāda’s books. Also, try to obtain the lectures of Śrīla Prabhupāda and listen very closely to those lectures.

When you are better situated, then you can and should contribute monthly to the mission. J____ and other devotees here are very determined to build the temple and āśrama in the wooded area of our property. When that is completed, then there will be facilities for visitors and you can arrange to bring interested persons from Boston here to our āśrama. Once that begins to happen, we will soon after be able to establish a permanent preaching centre in Boston.

Your determination not to marry is good, but keep your white cloth for now and try to increase your internal development according to my instructions above.

I hope this meets you well.

With Affection,

Swami B.G. Narasiṅgha
