Not Suited For Āśrama Life (09/17/10)

_____Mahārāja,

The long and the short of _____’s email is that he is not fixed or reliable. He seems very eccentric and his mind is never peaceful.

If you continue trying to hang on to him and keep him in ____ then he will eventually come to the breaking point and it could get NASTY. So, my suggestion is that you just let him go his way with the understanding that whatever he owes you financially must be paid back, or that it be paid back before he moves on. But keeping him for much longer is going to get more problematic.

Who knows, Mumbai is degraded and crazy enough that a guy like _____ just might make it big there, although I doubt that what he has to offer is really marketable and he will probably just end up scraping out a life there (like millions of others), and after sometime hang it up and move on. His real problem is his mind and nothing else.

_____ has not learned any particular art in serving Kṛṣṇa such as cooking, Deity worship, leading kīrtana, or any such things. It is shaping up that he is not suited for āśrama life or for working closely with āśrama related projects such as the gallery or being under a sannyāsī. And due to his overactive mind, I think that over all he is going to be very difficult to manage. I had wished for something better and I know you did also, and you have put much energy into giving him a chance at success, but as they say, ‘You can lead a horse to water but you cannot make him drink!’

I will write _____ once more in a day or so, but I do not expect that it will change matters from the way they are.

I’ll keep you informed.

Gaura Haribol,

Swami Narasingha
