Some Disciples Understand Prabhupāda, Others Do Not. (08/20/01)

Dear M____ Devī Dāsī,

Hare Kṛṣṇa. All glories to Śrīla Prabhupāda.

I am very happy to receive your humble words of kindness on Vyāsa-pūjā day. I am a very poor servant of Śrīla Prabhupāda and nobody knows that better than I do. However, to show his greatness, Śrīla Prabhupāda likes to make even a fool like myself dance and sing. It is important to me that my godbrothers and godsisters have some appreciation for this fallen soul. It confirms that Śrīla Prabhupāda has not kicked me away, but chooses to perform some activities through me.

Sometimes, when we are very close to something, we cannot actually understand clearly what it is. So to have remained away from the crowd for sometime has given many of us a chance to reflect deeper into the meaning of Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Nonetheless, we are a movement and we are all under the grace of Śrīla Prabhupāda. But some disciples understand him and others do not. Still, we are one family.

You have said, “Please take that which is most dear to me in this world.” But I find some contradiction here. You were ready to offer your son (that which is most dear to you), but when I asked M___ Mahārāja to ask you to give me the your Deity of Mahāprabhu in siddha-bakula, he said that you would never part with that! So what is more dear to you? Your son or Caitanya Mahāprabhu? Whichever it is I will happily take that.

I hope this meets you well.

Affectionately,

Swami B.G. Narasiṅgha
