Stick Very Closely to the Instruction of Your Guru (11/10/02)

Dear M___ Dāsa,

Hare Kṛṣṇa.

I came to know from the devotees after you returned to Bangalore this weekend, that you are not regularly chanting your rounds and that you have also become disturbed by reading some quotes of Śrīla Prabhupāda on the internet.

If you neglect to regularly chant, then this will certainly disturb your progress in Kṛṣṇa consciousness. It is the order of the guru to daily chant a fixed number of rounds, and to neglect this order is an offence to the Holy Name.

I do not advise my disciples to read many books or to read many websites. The is a lot of misinformation in the Vaiṣṇava world, and much of the information still requires clarification. If a disciple has time to read many books and websites then it maybe the reason that he has no time to chant his rounds on a daily basis.

You are a sincere devotee and your services are much appreciated by Kṛṣṇa and the devotees. Still, it is my duty to inform you that you cannot neglect the Holy Name and you should also learn to stick very closely to the instruction of your guru.

There are many dangers in the material world, but for one who follows the instruction of guru with great faith, there is never any fear.

If you have any further questions on this matter then we can discuss when I come to Bangalore.

I hope this meets you well.

With Affection,

Swami B.G. Narasiṅgha
