We Are Not the Enjoyers of This World (08/01/12)
Dear Mother _____,
I am happy to receive your email and to know that you want to become more serious in Kṛṣṇa consciousness.
In the western world we are all very unfortunate by birth, but by the grace of Kṛṣṇa and our Guardians (Śrīla Prabhupāda, Śrīla Śrīdhara Mahārāja and Śrīla Puri Mahārāja) we have been given the most wonderful opportunity of becoming Kṛṣṇa conscious. This is a very rare gift and we should always be attentive to do the right thing and take full advantage of the Lord’s supreme mercy.
I am very glad to hear that you are reading more the books of our Guardians and that you are giving up interest in the TV. Life is short and, like me, you are also growing old. Therefore we should not waste time with matter that have no connection to Kṛṣṇa.
Sometime you worry about what _____ will do in future and you want her to get a better education, etc. But the best and highest education is Kṛṣṇa consciousness. All others are like frogs in a well. Now you are approaching your senior years and if you can move to _____ and have _______ there as your assistant then you will make advancement and you will be showing your daughter what the real purpose of life is. Prabhupāda and Kṛṣṇa will be very happy to see this. But if you cannot move to ______, then at least you can visit there and do service whenever possible. That will be good. Mahāprabhu is living at ______and all the devotees should take full advantage of the situation and go there for service.
We are not the enjoyers of this world. Enjoyment is what causes suffering and Kṛṣṇa consciousness is what causes liberation and spiritual happiness. So always serve Kṛṣṇa and his devotees, and chant the holy name in a peaceful state of mind.
I hope that my words will give you some encouragement and i look forward to seeing you when I come to Mexico.
