It is Not a Fashion to Worship Śālagrāma (06/15/02)

Dear A____ Mahārāja,

I have just got a letter from devotee to whom śālagrāma-śilā was to be send. In that letter  he also asked me  is there any scriptural reference that Ugra Narasiṁha can be worshiped only by sannyāsīs ?

Yes there are śāstrika  references in Śālagrāma Kośa, Garuḍa Purāṇa, and Hari-bhakti-vilāsa that state that Ugra Narasiṁha can only be worshipped by yatis and tyāgīs (sannyāsīs).

I am personally feeling so sorry that I have made this arrangement and put you and him in this trouble.

This  “trouble” started because no real Vaiṣṇava of authority told him that he could worship śālagrāma. Who is the guru of this devotees? He may be sincere, but then why is he not listening to a sannyāsī? He is simply telling us what he wants, but he is not ready to accept any instruction.

I want to know who his guru is and I will email his guru and this matter will be settled between his guru and myself. Send me the name and email address of his guru as soon as possible and I will do the needful.

Worship of śālagrāma should only begin at the instruction of one’s guru. It is not a game or a fashion to worship śālagrāma.

What should I do now ?

The śālagṛāma should remain with you until I get to India next month and then I will take the śilā to Govindajī Gardens. That is my final instruction. Send me the name and email address or any address of that devotee’s guru and I will do the needful.

I hope this meets you well.

With Affection,

Swami B.G. Narasiṅgha
