A Devotee is Willing to Take Risks. (07/25/01)

A____Dāsa,

Hare Kṛṣṇa.

I have a question regarding one of the offences to the Holy Name; instructing the faithless about the glories of the Holy Name. When devotees go on book distribution, don’t they sometimes distribute literature to faithless people, and thereby instruct them about the glories of the Holy Name?

No, that is not an offence. If a person shows strong disinterest, but you persist to instruct them, or if you disclose intimate glories of the Supreme Lord to faithless persons, then that may be an offence.

Also, I have a little website up on the subject of Kṛṣṇa consciousness, and it ‘instructs’ (for lack of a better term) about the glories of the Holy Name. I am wondering if I am committing offences when faithless people read that website.

If they are faithless, then most likely they will not read your website in the first place. But sometimes, envious and faithless persons read our books and other material with the view to find fault with our philosophy. But what can be done? In order to save the innocent people a devotee of Kṛṣṇa is willing to take so many risks and even tolerate envious and faithless persons. Sometimes a very advanced devotee contacts the faithless and envious persons, and by his association, those persons eventually become devotees. Such is the mercy of a great Vaiṣṇava.

I hope this meets you well.

Affectionately,

Swami B.G. Narasiṅgha
