Gadādhara Paṇḍita and Gadādhara Dāsa. (07/21/01)

Hare Kṛṣṇa. Please accept my humble blessings.

I was happy to receive your question.

1)What is the difference between the halo of Rādhārāṇī and Her nature etc. between Gadādhara Paṇḍita and Gadādhara Dāsa?

2) Is it the same person?

No, they are not the same person. Gadādhara Paṇḍita is an expansion of Rādhā Herself (bhāva) and Gadādhara Dāsa is the kānti, or halo, of Rādhārāṇī. The halo of Rādhārāṇī is śraddhā, or faith. In the spiritual world the qualities and characteristics of Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa are expanded as different eternal associates called pārṣadas. Gadādhara Dāsa is the expansion of the halo of Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī and Gadādhara Paṇḍita is the expansion of the bhāva of Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī.

Here is some additional information about Gadādhara Dāsa as follows:

“Gadādhara Dāsa, he is accepted as kānti, bhāva-kānti. Rādhā-bhāva-dyuti-suvalitam. Rādhārāṇī is conceived to divide into two, to be divided. This inner tendency, inner mood and outer glaze. So Dāsa Gadādhara is conceived as the outer glaze, and Paṇḍita Gadādhara is taken as the inner mood. Mahāprabhu has taken both and the shadow-like thing represented in both of them. Dāsa Gadādhara he used to stay nearby Calcutta, Hari-sohar or some place. And he was a straight, simple and straight-minded man, in our language. He one day approached the Kazi, ‘You Kazi, you must take the name of Kṛṣṇa!’

‘Why, I am a muslim, why should I take the name of Kṛṣṇa?’ ‘

Oh, you have taken already, Kṛṣṇa! ‘ You have taken the name of Kṛṣṇa, and he embraced him. ‘Yes, you have taken.. . ‘

And the Kazi was friendly to him. More important thing in him we find. After sannyāsa in Katwā, in his last days he came to take charge of that place where Mahāprabhu took the sannyāsa, and he opened a temple there, Gadādhara Dāsa, who are at present also in charge of that temple management, they are all the disciplic line of Dāsa Gadādhara. Dāsa Gadādhara’s tomb is also there, samādhi. Up to his last day, he lived there in Katwā in the place of, in that keśa-samādhi of Mahāprabhu.”

I am happy to see that you have taken an interest in Gadādhara Paṇḍita and Gadādhara Dāsa.

I hope this meets you well.

With Affection,

Swami B.G. Narasiṅgha
