I Cannot Come Without My Ammunition (01/12/02)

Daṇḍavats B_____ Mahārāja,
Hare Kṛṣṇa.

I have gone through the email below and I understand your concerns and points. I am certainly not offended.

Immediately after the disappearance of Śrīla Purī Mahārāja, I informed some of the devotees that X_Mahārāja and others of their ilk would increase the intensity of their ‘sahajiyā’ style preaching, knowing that there was now no senior Vaiṣṇava present on the planet to whom they might stand responsible for their apa-siddhānta. I was correct. Immediately after the disappearance of Śrīla Purī Mahārāja, we witnessed a surge of sahajiyāism in the west and attacks against Iskcon.

As you know, in the battle with X_Mahārāja, Iskcon is ill-prepared and that is why I am sometimes called upon. If and when Iskcon can ever shake the fear of hearing from pure and exalted Vaiṣṇavas like Śrīla Śrīdhara Mahārāja and Śrīla Purī Mahārāja then at least half, if not all their struggles with X_Mahārāja will be over.

I understand your concerns about my preaching in an Iskcon center and not presenting the books of Śrīla Śrīdhara Mahārāja and Śrīla Purī Mahārāja, but ultimately one cannot get the medicine one needs unless one goes to the doctor. I am under the doctor’s care and so naturally I want devotees to at least know where the medicine is coming from.

Of course it is possible for me to visit you sometime and preach without giving great emphasis to the above, but when I am asked to go against the preaching of X_Mahārāja and to definitively defeat the misconceptions of his camp then I certainly need my Guardians at my side and that means not only their books but, also being uninhibited in speaking extensively about them and the contribution to Śrīla Prabhupāda’s movement. Just to be speaking and know that I am not supposed to mention something or someone actually cramps my style so much that I become useless.

You mentioned C___ Swami in another email, so why not let him handle the situation? Especially since it is his disciples who are also going to be ultimately affected sooner or later.

As for New Vṛndāvana, ‹I think the place is so heavily cursed under Vaiṣṇava aparādha that on their own they will succumb to X_Mahārāja en masse! I can do little to help them without creating another revolution.

Iskcon will have to fight fire with fire. X_Mahārāja enters with something dynamic and different and the devotees will be attracted. I cannot go there with some half-baked presentation and expect any effective results. I always do what I have to do with as much sensitivity and dignity as possible, but ultimately I fight the enemy with a revolution of my own. Do you get my point?

I would certainly like to visit you at some time in the future and do some peaceful preaching and get your holy association, but I cannot come to the battlefield to face the X_Mahārāja camp without my ammunition.

It is not only my consideration of the situation, but my peers and my disciples would all be held in dismay if I went out to preach in such a situation, but did not present that which is most dear to my heart ‹ that which saved me from all misconception and folly.

Let me know how things go when you get back to your āśrama. Its probably not as serious as you first thought. I heard that the sannyāsī that is in Efland now is not so effective. I think that you will be able to handle the situation just fine after you return. But as for New Vṛndāvana, I think that when X_Mahārāja goes there that he will gather followers in significant numbers (mass).

I am very sorry that I could not be of service to you at this time.

I hope this meets you well.

Praṇāmas,
Swami B.G. Narasiṅgha
