“Danger!” was written by Śrīla Narasiṅgha Mahārāja for narasingha.net on June 9th 2011, wherein Mahārāja talks about his recent travels in Europe and Mexico where it seems the Grim Reaper is following his every move. He questions if it is his ‘bad luck’ or is the world inherently a dangerous place?

As you may know, I recently toured a few countries, starting with Iceland, on my way back to India. Here is what followed – shortly after leaving Iceland another of the countries volcanoes erupted causing confusion and delays in European air traffic for some days.

After my quitting Germany there was an outbreak of deadly E-coli which caused sickness in many and the death of 16 or more people.

The day after I left Greece there were violent protests in Athens and the police used teargas and batons to disperse the crowds. Many people and police were injured.

The day after leaving Italy thousands of citizens evacuated the city of Rome for fear of the prediction that an earthquake of devastating proportions would strike the city. That day the earthquake struck instead in Spain, killing 7 people.

After my leaving Turkey, Kurdish rioters took to the streets and clashed with security forces in a violent display of dissatisfaction. There were many injuries.

Also since departing from Mexico where I started my journey it so happens that more than 700 murder victims have been found in mass graves in Mexico’s boarder states to the USA. The victims are thought to be the casualties in Mexico’s ongoing ‘Drug War’.

Then to top it all off, shortly after arriving back at Govindajī Gardens Ashram near Mysore, 2 adolescent rogue elephants wandered from the forest into the city and created quite a disturbance, leading to the death of at least 1 man and several others injured.

Only Sweden and Czech Republic seemed to have been spared any wrath in the wake of my travels. But there is always tomorrow.

So my question is…am I just bad luck, for wherever I go suffers some kind of tragedy – or is the world just inherently a dangerous place?
