Mirābāī Propaganda (04/27/01)

P____ Dāsa,

Hare Kṛṣṇa.

G___ Mahārāja forwarded your email to me. Let me make a few brief comments below.

The X camp speaks on so many topics that they are simply not fit to discuss. They live in a world of their own fancy. But when they speak philosophy, it becomes clear that the are lost and grabbing at straws.

I happened to meet D_____ today. He was trying to explain the Mīrābāi thing to me. Also he mentioned that I caused big trouble with the Vraja-bhāva article. I told him that it was not me that caused it. That the article had roots coming from many different sources including the published songs of Mīrābāi. (He mentioned that there is a song of Mīrābāi praising the fact that Kṛṣṇa appeared as Mahāprabhu and that Śrīla Prabhupāda praised that song). And that is the song which they have. Mīrābāi was said to have attained service at the feet of the Queen of Dvārakā. She was a disciple of Śrīla Jīva Gosvāmī.

Your reply to D____ was correct. I could write one hundred such articles cutting the araṇya of misconception. And I may indeed do that someday.

Mīrābāi may have mentioned Mahāprabhu somewhere, but that does little warrant her bhajanas being taken as food for the devotees in the line of pure devotional service (real vraja-bhāva). The song of Mīrābāi published in their song book in India does not mention Mahāprabhu. And anyway, is it sufficient to only ‘mention’ Mahāprabhu? He is the divine descent of Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa combined – the most merciful of all forms of Godhead – so is it enough to simply ‘mention’ Mahāprabhu? No. The real devotees give their life and soul with every breath to Mahāprabhu – that is the line which we are following.

Mīrābāi is not a disciple of Śrī Jīva. That is propaganda and our ācāryas never accepted as such. I heard this directly from Śrīla Śrīdhara Mahārāja also and it is on video tape. They should take their own medicine. Mīrābāi cannot give vraja-bhāva. They want to even stress that Advaita Ācārya cannot give vraja-bhāva, but they worship Mīrābāi. It is foolish.

Even the part of Mīrābāi and the Dvārakā queens is propaganda. There is no mention of this by our ācāryas. These people are enjoyers, not servants of higher topics or higher ācāryas. In the words of Śrīla Śrīdhara Mahārāja, they are sentiment-mongers.

In future, you should not get drawn into their programs. They are intentionally trying to draw you in however they can.

But then he said something odd, “if I had the 100% guarantee of reaching the Queens of Dvārkā, I would take the chance immediately”.

That shows that D____ has not understood even the littlest thing about higher topics. The fact is that in the past, he was an offender to Śrīla Śrīdhara Mahārāja and that offence is still hanging over his head. Therefore, he can not understand even the remotest thing about gopī-bhāva and proper Gauḍīya conception.

I know that our Śrīla Guru Mahārāja has never preached like this. He would take nothing but the service of his guru “gopī-bhartur pāda kamalayor dāsa-dāsānudāsa.

Yes. You are correct. And those gopī people came here in the form of Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura and Sarasvatī Ṭhākura and we follow them. That was the standard of Śrīla Prabhupāda and Śrīla Śrīdhara Mahārāja, and the standard of Purī Gosvāmī and all other stalwarts in the line.

Keep your head above the water and Kṛṣṇa will make you stronger by the day.

I hope this meets you well.

With Affection,

Swami B.G. Narasiṅgha
